Trusting the Sufficiency of God

I thank You, Father, that You have given us all things that pertain to life and godliness. 2 Peter 1:3

Father, help me to know, and to trust, and to see that You are the Everlasting God, The Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth. You neither faint nor grow weary. Your understanding is unsearchable. You give power to the weak- and Father, I am weak. To those who have no might, You increase strength- and Father, I am out of strength. Even the young will faint and be weary, even young men will utterly fall.

But,I will wait upon You Lord, and You will renew my strength. I will mount up with wings like eagles do. I will run and not be weary, and I shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:28-31

God, You are my refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble. Therefore I will not fear, even if the earth is destroyed, and the mountains are thrown into the sea… There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. You are in the midst of that city, and it shall not be moved.

You will help Your people. You are the Lord of Hosts, and You are with us; You are the God of Jacob, and You are our refuge.

I will be still, and know that You are God. You will be exalted among the nations, You will be exalted in the earth. From Psalm 46

Lord, I know that if my child asks for bread, I am not going to give him a stone, if he asks for fish, I won’t give him a snake, and if he asks for an egg, I won’t give him a scorpion. So if I, evil as I am, know how to give good gifts to my children, how much more will You, my heavenly Father, give the Holy Spirit to me? May I come to You, humble as a child, and rely on You and You alone to meet all my needs according to Your riches in glory. Luke 11:11-13, Matthew 18:1-4, Philippians 4:19

God who made the world and all that is in it, Lord of both Heaven and earth, You not live in temples made by human hands, nor are You ministered to by human hands, as though You had need of anything. You are the one who gives to all men life and breath and everything else. So if I lack wisdom, I need only to ask You, because You give to all liberally and without reproach. Acts 17:24-25

As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for You, O God. My soul thirsts for you. I am poor and needy, and yet You think of me. You are my help and my deliverer. You are my shepherd; I shall not want. You make me to lie down in green pastures. You restore my soul. Those who seek You lack no good thing. Psalm 42:1, 40:17, 23:1-3, 33:9

Lord, sometimes I lift my eyes to the hills before me, and wonder where in the world I am going to find help. I need You to remind me that my help comes from You, who made heaven and earth. You will not allow my foot to be moved. You will keep me, and You won’t fall asleep on the job. You are my keeper, You are the shade at my right hand, You keep me safe day and night. You preserve me from all evil. You watch over my coming and my going today, tomorrow, and forevermore. Psalm 121

Jesus, teach me that apart from You, I can do nothing, but I can do all things through You, Who give me strength. John 15:5, Philippians 4:13

Such confidence we have through Christ before You, Lord. Not that we are competent within ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from You alone. Your divine power has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness. 2 Corinthians 3:4, 2 Peter 1: 3

Father, forgive me when my attitude says, like the Laodiceans, “I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing.” When I am self-reliant, I am self-deceived, and do not know that I am wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked. But because You love me, Jesus, You rebuke and chasten my pride; I repent of my independence from You. Rev 3:17, 19

I fear you, Lord, and I obey the voice of Jesus, because I understand that without You I walk in darkness. I choose to trust in Your holy name, and rely on You alone. If I choose to light my own fire, and provide myself with flaming torches, I will only be choosing to lie down in torment. Isaiah 50:10-11 NIV

I pray that I will not think of myself more highly than I ought to think, but to think soberly about who I really am. For it is by Your grace that I have been saved through faith, and that is not my own doing; it is a gift from You. Romans 12:3, Ephesians 2:8

Father, I know that pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Please give me a humble spirit. Sometimes there is a way that seems right to me, but its end is the way of death. Lead Me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; for You I wait all the day long. Proverbs 16:18, 25, Psalm 25:5 ESV
