Prayers for Marriage

Father God, I need Your help to love _____fully, because apart from You, I can do nothing, especially love unselfishly. Love comes from You, anyway, and no matter how hard I try, I cannot love _____ well without Your help. You loved me first, before I loved You or anyone else- that’s the only reason I can love at all. No matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love. I pray You will give me Your love for _____.

Your love suffers long and is kind; Your love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude.  Your love does not seek to keep the best, but to give the best away. Your love does not think evil, but rejoices in the truth.

Father, Your love means I do not insist on my own rights or my own way. When I show _____ Your love, I am not touchy or fretful or resentful. Your love takes no account of the wrongs done to it. Your love, in fact, is the one thing that stands when all else has fallen.

I want to have this kind of love for _____, Lord: Your love that bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Please, Father, give me Your love that never fails. John 15:5, 1 John 4:7, 18, 1 Corinthians 13:3:8 NKJV, NLT, Phillips, AMP, MSG

As Your chosen people, help _____ and I to put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, and longsuffering, so that we bear with one another and forgive each other when we have complaints. Help us to remember that because Christ forgave us, we must forgive each other. But above all these things, Lord, help us to put on love, which is the bond of perfection. May Your peace rules in our hearts and our home. This is what You called us to, and we are thankful. Colossians 3:12-15

Lord, I pray that _____ and I will appreciate that two are better than one, because we have good reward for our labor. And when we fall, we can lift each other up. Woe to the one who is alone when he or she falls, for there is no one to help. When the two of us lie down together, we keep each other warm. When I am alone, I can be overpowered, but together with _____, we are stronger. A threefold cord- You, me, and _____- is not easily broken. Therefore what You have joined together, let not man separate. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, Matthew 19:6

I pray, Father, that I would do unto _____ as I would have him/her do unto me. And when I say that, I mean that even it when it feels like _____ and I are enemies, help me do good to him/her without expecting anything in return. Luke 6:31,35

Lord, help me completely humble and gentle, patient, bearing with _____ in love. Ephesians 4:2

Help me, Lord, to be devoted to _____ in love, and to honor _____ above myself. Romans 12:10

Above all else, help me love _____ deeply, because loves covers a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8

Wives: I thank You, Father, for the good gift of _____, because I know that every good gift is from You. You have said that it is not good for man to be alone, and so You created us to be companions for each other, united as one flesh. As a wife, I was specifically designed to help_____. Help me fulfill this role eagerly. I want to learn what it means to submit to him in the same way I submit to You; don’t let me reject this command because I don’t understand it. May my behavior towards my husband be so blameless that he sees You in me. May I be more attentive to my heart than my appearance, cultivating the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious to You too. James 1:17, Genesis 2: 18, 20, 24, Ephesians 5:22, 1 Peter 3: 1-4

Husbands: I thank You, Father, for the good gift of _____, because I know that every good gift is from You. Lord, You have said that it is not good for man to be alone, and so You created us to be companions together, living as one flesh. Help me show _____ understanding, giving honor and protection to her because we are heirs together of the grace of life.

Jesus, please help me to love _____ just as You love the church and gave Your life for her. So I ought to love _____ with my own body; if I am loving her I am loving myself, for no one ever hates his own flesh. Teach me to nourish and cherish her, just as You do the church. By loving _____ in this way, I am participating in the great mystery of You and Your bride. James 1:17, Genesis 2: 18,24, 1 Peter 3:7, Ephesians 5:25-33

Father, may I always bring happiness to the wife I have married, for he who finds a good wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from You. Deuteronomy 24:5, Proverbs 18:22
